Mumbai: A drunken naval officer was held for allegedly groping a woman doctor on a busy street in Colaba under the influence of wine.
On Saturday, the woman, who is a physcician in a private hospital, and her colleague, rode to Colaba on the latter’s bike to have dinner at an upmarket food joint. There was rush in the restaurant and the manager asked them that they have to wait for an hour. So they decided to go for a short bike ride to pass time.
According to the TOI: After a couple of minutes, when the friend stopped the bike near Colaba bus depot and made a call to the hotel manager to know the reservation status, Chauhan allegedly groped the woman and tried to escape. The girl shrieked and fell off the bike. After a brief chase Chauhan was caught and handed over to Colaba police.
“We detained Chauhan and booked him under IPC Section 354 for outraging the modesty of a woman. We also informed the Indian Navy about the incident,” said a police officer, adding that Chauhan was drunk at the time of the incident.
Chouhan was later released on a cash bail of Rs 15,000.
